Mashujaa Day: Angolan President João Lourenço No Show in Kericho Over Unforeseen Reasons
Angolan President João Lourenço who landed in Kenya on Thursday, October 19 was supposed to be the Chief Guest at the Mashujaa Day celebration in Kericho Green Stadium. "On behalf of President João Lourenço, I would first wish to convey his apologies. He would have loved to be here. But for unforeseen reasons, he could not make it to Kericho he has sent you very warm greetings," Tete said. In his remarks, President William Ruto said: "Our guest, Tete António, Foreign Affairs Minister of Angola who is representing my brother, the Angolan President João Lourenço who is in Kenya as we talk and he will be having a state visit tomorrow, Saturday, October 21," said Ruto. As early as 4am on Friday, October 20, long queues of residents started to form, awaiting security ahead of the celebrations to be presided over by President William Ruto. The town residents trooped to the stadium at dawn, and by 6am, all terraces reserved for the public were already full. The turnout is huge despite the cold and rain being witnessed in the area. There was a near stampede as people scrambled for the 10,000 spaces available at the stadium. The Kenya Kwanza administration upgraded the stadium to a 10,000-seater capacity with two VIP lounges, two changing rooms, terraces, and paved parking.
