Kericho Lady Killed in Mashujaa Stampede Was Set to Join College Next Week, Family Says

 

A family in Kericho county has been thrown into the mourning of their daughter, who was one of the casualties of Friday's Mashujaa Day stampede. Mercy was among those who died on Mashujaa Day.  family's daughter, Mercy Cheruiyot, is said to have been among the four who died after a commotion at the Kericho Green Stadium on Friday, October 20. Speaking to Citizen TV, Mercy's father disclosed that she was set to join college next week to further her studies, but unfortunately, death hit before she could chase her dreams. "The devil is horrible. I loved this child. She was hardworking," the deceased's father heartbreakingly said. Her mother recalled receiving news on Friday, informing her of the tragedy. "A woman called me and told me to rush to the hospital. I was so shaken by the news," she recounted. The family now demands justice for their daughter and a sufficient explanation of the circumstances under which their daughter died. Kindiki orders investigations into stampede The Ministry of Interior recently sanctioned a probe into the Kericho Green Stadium Stampede that killed four people. The tragedy occurred on the dawn of Friday ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations that President William Ruto presided over. In a statement, the CS Kithure Kindiki-led docket called for calm from Kenyans as its investigators got to the bottom of the matter. The Ministry also condoled with the families that lost their loved ones. Senator Cherargei blames Ababu Namwamba In other news, Senator Samson Cherargei apportioned blame to Sports and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba for the fatal stampede. Cherargei, while expressing his sorrow, called for bringing Ababu to book for overlooking the 'substandard' work at the venue despite millions being spent on it. "My heart goes out to the families and friends who lost their loved ones after the stampede at Kericho Stadium yesterday. The supervising Ministry of Sports CS Ababu Namwamba must held responsible for this unfortunate incident," he insisted.   BY TUKO NEWS
