Kenyan Govt to Distribute Subsidised Gas Cylinders to Poor Kenyans: "To Reduce Consumer Prices"

 

This is meant to promote the use of clean energy under the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)growth policy. A despatch by Cabinet on Monday, October 9, required all housing developments to have provisions for liquefied petroleum gas reticulation infrastructure. These measures aim to reduce consumer prices, improve public safety and contribute to both public health and environmental sustainability," the Cabinet stated. What was Ruto's promise on gas prices? President William Ruto promised to lower cooking gas prices to less than KSh 500 by June 2023. He said refilling the 6kg cooking gas cylinder would cost KSh 500 or KSh 300 after the scrapping of taxes. Ruto assured Kenyans that the government was keen to eliminate all cartels in the LPG sector. "Every person who is filling gas will be registered and licensed by the government of Kenya." The head of state told journalists at the state house on Sunday, May 14, that the reduction of prices was for gas cylinders only. "We are only lowering the price of cooking gas cylinders to between KSh 300 and KSh 500... before you refill gas," he said. Ruto tasked Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir to ensure cooking gas is made available to Kenyan households at a subsidised price within three years.  BY TUKO NEWS
