Implementation of our manifesto key priority, says President Ruto
President William Ruto has said the Government is committed to implementing its manifesto.
He said the goal is to forge a nation of equal access to opportunities to all Kenyans.
He observed that the country can only progress if the right policies and programmes are put in place.
“Our manifesto was not just a piece of paper; it was a plan that is being implemented,” he said.
The President was speaking on Sunday at the Revival Sanctuary of Glory Riruta Satellite in Dagoretti South.
Present were Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, MPs Kimani Ichungw’ah (Kikuyu), John Kiarie (Dagoretti South), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Ronald Karauri (Kasarani) and Nairobi Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri.
The President said the new healthcare plan that was launched recently will bring equity in the contribution and delivery of care to the people.
Under this plan, no Kenyan will be driven into poverty due to medical expenses.
“Kenya will not continue to be a country for a few people but for everybody,” he argued.
The President said that the Government has introduced reforms in the education sector to narrow the educational access gap between the rich and the less privileged.
He cited the hiring of 56,000 teachers to enhance the quality of education across the country.
“The new university funding model will enhance equality as students from disadvantaged backgrounds will get 100 per cent scholarships,” he added.
He said the affordable housing project and investments in the digital economy will expand opportunities for the youth.
President Ruto said the government has put in place robust measures to reduce the cost of living citing the subsidies fertilizer programme.
“Going forward, we have a comprehensive plan on food production so that citizens do not face hunger ever again,” he said.
He asked Kenyans not to allow anyone to divide them along tribal lines and instead work together to develop the nation.
He maintained that the government will take stern action against those who loot and misappropriate public funds.
Governor Lomorukai (ODM) vowed to work with the government to advance the interests of the people.
He lauded President Ruto for spearheading development programmes in Turkana County, even though the county voted for the opposition.
Kiarie lauded President Ruto’s development track record citing reforms in education and the health sectors.
He said the new healthcare plan is a significant relief for low-income earners who previously had to sell property to cover medical expenses.
“Even at a time when the economy is struggling you are delivering,” he added.
Karauri observed that the Kenya Kwanza manifesto was taking shape and the impact would be felt in due course.
The Kasarani legislator cited the Universal Health Coverage, affordable housing project and subsidising of production as some of the programmes that will transform the country.
“In the past, a manifesto was a campaign tool that was thrown away after campaigns, however, under the Kenya Kwanza administration we are seeing them implement it step by step,” he said.
Ichungwa said the Kenya Kwanza administration is committed to fulfilling its manifesto citing the Universal Health Coverage pledge.
“For the first time in our country a manifesto has not been reduced to a mere campaign document, you have implemented our manifesto and you are continuing to implement it,” he said.
He said the government is not focused on what is popular today but on what will make Kenya stronger.
Ndindi said legislators will continue supporting the President as he makes the tough decisions aimed at restoring the country’s economy.
“The destiny of a nation is not dependent on wishes but deliberate policies and programmes,” he said. PCS
