Eric Omondi fundraises for smokie vendor after Kanjo chaos

Traders operating mayai smokie businesses incurred heavy losses Wednesday Oct 18 when Kanjo descende don them and impounded their trolleys.

The county askari's harassed traders as they carried away their trolley and loaded them onto a lorry.

A public outcry soon followed and later Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja intervened through hsi officials.

Sakaja is currently in Paris for some meetings.

One trader a woman named Quinter Adhiambo, among those affected stood out. Eric was spotted helping her get back her trolley.

"Call her tomorrow (Thursday) morning. You are my friend. Give her five million shillings You have it, you can change her life. Help her, her dad is sick, he doesn't have a job even her sibling is in Kissii University bwana Sakaja take oen life, change one life."

Eric urged the County boss;

"This is an opportunity that God is giving you. change just one life. Just change her life and I will call you tomorrow (Thursday)."

Omondi also called on County Askaris to handle Nairobi residents ina humane way as they go about their business.

"Use common sense, economy ni mbaya, people are struggling," he shares their pain.

Governor Sakaja has compensated each trader sh10,000. He apologized profusely for the action his askaris took,

"The happenings in the CBD earlier today were most unfortunate. This is not the way to treat Nairobians as we have continually implored our officers to treat Nairobians with Dignity. We have had cordial relations with informal traders for a year but lately, there have been unfortunate incidences that seek to sabotage that."

Adding that the matter will be dealt with.

"We will take disciplinary action. I have ordered the immediate release of all confiscated items, apologized to the traders, and personally compensated each of them to the tune of 10,000 shillings each. Even if the traders were operating without the required documentation, including a Medical Certificate from Public Health that every food handler must-have for the safety of Nairobians, they did not deserve such treatment and we are dealing with this internally. Poleni sana."  BY MPASHO NEWS
