Early morning accident leaves 9 dead in Makueni

 

Five people have been reported dead and three others injured following a tragic road accident that occurred at 4.00 am between Machinery and Kambu area Kibwezi, Makueni along the busy Nairobi – Mombasa Highway.

Confirming the wee morning accident OCPD Peter Maina said the five passengers died on the spot after the bus they were traveling in hit a tractor at the back then swaved to the other side of the road hitting a lorry head-on.

The PSV bus and the tractor were coming from Nairobi heading to Mombasa with the trailer heading in the opposite direction before it rammed the tractor at the back.

The people who died on the spot include the bus driver, the driver of the tractor, the driver of the trailer, and two passengers who were being ferried by the trailer.

Several others who were passengers of the bus sustained minor injuries and were rushed to different hospitals around Kibwezi area.

The vehicles were moved to Kibwezi police station for inspection.

The 5 bodies have been moved to Kambu Subcounty Hospital awaiting postmortem.

Maina has urged drivers to be extra careful to avoid losing innocent souls of passengers.

"Some accidents can be overcome only if you drivers are keen on the road," Maina said.   BY MPASHO NEWS
