Anyone claiming ownership of Athi River land is an illegal squatter- EAPC

 

East African Portland Cement plc now says they warned victims of ongoing demolitions against buying the land they settled on.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Portland Chair Richard Mbithi said they issued numerous warnings stating that the land was not for sale as it was a property of EAPC.

Mbithoi said they ran campaigns in the media and even engaged local people warning them against the purchase of the land.

"Any person claiming ownership of the land is considered an illegal squatter. We requested for the eviction of the illegal occupants of the land," they said.

They further added that the eviction had been carried out in the manner the government thought it was necessary to do.

"The court did not talk about the demolition they made the ruling. The land is not intended for sale but government use," they said.

In terms of dialogue, the MD Oliver Kirubai said:

"The leaders protesting against the demolition have not reached out to us. Once they do so we will know the way forward," the MD stated

As for the land available they said the window is only open for the squatters as they will be given the first priority.    BY MPASHO NEWS
