News

Grammy award-winning Nigerian songstress and songwriter Temilade Openiyi popularly known by her stage name, Tems has revealed she is ready to crossover from music and showcase her other talents.

Besides writing like she was commissioned by the gods, 28-year-old Tems wants the world to know that she is an amazing actor (even though she hasn’t had any roles yet) and given the chance she already knows what role she would want to play as she is sure she would kill it.

Speaking with BBC Capital Xtra London, the ‘Essence’ hitmaker shared her interest in the movie industry noting that she feels that she is already good at the craft although being a professional she admits that she might need a little bit of coaching to get to that A1 level.

“I’m ready to act in movies. Not ready right now, but I’m already good at acting,” started off Tems.

The globally celebrated artist went on to outline the set of characters she feels she would totally kill given the chance to feature in a movie.

“The first character I would love to play is a single mum. It doesn’t need to be struggling. It could be like a fun single mum or a single mum that has mysteries. A gangster,” excitedly quipped Tems.

Seeing as she is the first Nigerian artist to earn an Oscar nomination and the feels she pours in her music videos we can be best assured that she really is that girl and would deliver given the platform. I for one would love to see her on-screen presence.

Her other notable achievements include becoming the first Nigerian female singer to earn a Grammy award for her contribution to Future’s ‘Wait For U’ as well as being the first Nigerian artist to debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and to top it off she has also won three BET awards.     BY MPASHO NEWS
