TikToker Hilariously Laments Parents Overdoing PP2 Graduations: “Guka Anatoka Ushago”

Why was Gathitu lamenting? The TikToker, identified as Moses Gathitu, lamented the trend, suggesting that parents are treating the milestone as if their child has earned a full-fledged degree. In the video, posted on his handle, @mosesgathitu, the TikToker expressed his exasperation, saying,”Ata kama wazazi, hii graduation ya PP2 mnaipeleka too much. Mnaifanya nikama mtoto amepata degree. Punguzeni pressure bwana,” he argued. He then humorously highlighted the extent to which some families were going to mark the occasion. Gathitu shares what parents do He painted a vivid picture of relatives travelling from far-flung areas, including Nakuru, Nyahururu, Nanyuki, and even as far as Meru, just to attend the PP2 graduation ceremonies. “Uncle wa Nakuru anakuja Nairobi, guka anatoka huko reserve, huko Nyahururu, Nanyuki, anakuja mpaka Nairobi kwa sababu grandchild ana graduate PP2,” said Gathitu. “This is too much, nimeona watu wengi na Nissan kutoka Meru, Nissan mzima kutoka Meru, wamekuja graduation ya mtoto PP2. Mnaipeleka too much, ata kama,” he added. TikToker’s critique, delivered in a light-hearted manner, sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many users chiming in with their own experiences and opinions. Netizens react to Gathitu’s video  @Africanna4 shared her experience, saying: “Wachana na wameru my sister flew from Norway to Kenya to for my daughter pp2 graduation being the only Auntie she had to.” @Trizah Terriz suggested: “Achana na watu nani. Maybe that’s the only graduation they’ll attend ya huyo mtoto.” @G͎y͎p͎s͎y͎ supported the parents, saying: “I actually support it . Our generation is showing support and being there for their kids at a very young age.” @yvonnewanjiru32 shared her experience; “Me watching after driving to school with my car full of balloons as if it was a wedding.” @emmahmuiruri opined: “Hizi graduation za primary are the only ones that the parents have full control.University degree maghaidi already have planned venues and invites.” Isaac Mwaura overjoyed as son graduates PP2 In a related story, Kenyan politician Mwaura Isaac Maigua joined many parents in celebrating their kids’ success as he celebrated his son. Njiru graduated from PP2, and his loving dad was over the moon, expressing his fatherly delight online. The chairman of the Albinism Society of Kenya penned a heartwarming message, praising his bundle of joy for the achievement. “My son Njiru graduated from PP2. This boy has grown to be confident and talented. The kindergarten has him as ‘friendly’, a man of the people. Like father, like son.
