Eight worst foods for your teeth

They say you are what you eat but taking care of your teeth requires care and attention.

Some foods are particularly prone to increasing potential tooth damage.

Many foods and beverages can cause plaque buildup, which can have serious health effects on your teeth.

After you eat a sugary snack or meal, the sugars cause the bacteria to release acids that attack tooth enamel.

Cavities cause complications like pain, chewing problems, and tooth abscesses.

To avoid such complications, avoid foods such as sour candy since they  contain more and different kinds of acids that are tougher on your teeth.

Bread can cause cavities. When you chew bread, your saliva breaks down the starches into sugar which then sticks to the crevices between teeth.

Carbonated sodas also cause plaque to produce more acid to attack tooth enamel.

Other foods that have a high propensity to damage your teeth include potato chips, dried fruits, citrus such as oranges, grapefruits, and lemons and alcohol.    BY THE STAR
