Kericho County has received a huge infrastructural facelift as part of the benefits envisioned in hosting national holidays.

The national government has executed several projects in the county in preparations for the 60th Mashujaa Day celebrations.

The Kericho Green Stadium, the venue of the event has been renovated to a 10,000 seater capacity stadium.

At least 10km of roads in Kericho town have been tarmacked and an additional 2km in Kaptatet, which played host for the four-day Universal Health Coverage exhibition and conference.

Kericho County Referral Hospital was elevated from level 4 to a level 5 facility, an upgrade that will see residents receive enhanced healthcare services.

The upgrade includes an oncology unit and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) both inaugurated by the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua earlier this week.

The county has also benefitted from the expansion of Kerenga Airstrip to meet airport standards, with an additional Ksh400 million allocated by the national government towards completion of the airport.

“This airport will be upgraded to the status of Wilson Airport. The airport will open up Kericho on matters tourism, business and serve the entire South Rift region,” Kericho Governor Eric Mutai said during an interview with KBC Channel 1 on Thursday.

The County Commissioner’s residence has also been reconstructed to host the garden party after celebrations at the stadium.   BY KBC NEWS
