Rebecca Miano is now the Cabinet Secretary of Investment, Trade and Industry and until Wednesday the 4th of October 2023 was the CS East Africa Community, The Arid and Semi Arid Lands, and Regional Development, following a cabinet reshuffle by President William Ruto.
At her office, she appears the epitome of a corporate figure, engrossed in the demands of her office and the considerable responsibilities that come with it.
However, her role extends far beyond the confines of her office, especially as she marks her one-year anniversary as a cabinet secretary in the Kenya Kwanza government.
Her daily routine in her previous docket involved a delicate balancing act, involving meetings with government officials, the evaluation of ministry projects in arid and semi-arid regions, the occasional document signing, and even journeys to Arusha, Tanzania, for East Africa Community Ministers meetings or other assignments that take her far from home.
Yet, beyond the realm of her official duties, Miano has a delightful secret – she is an avid knitter. With a warm smile, she confesses, “I love knitting; I can create scarves or skirts with my own hands.”
During an exclusive interview with KBC’s News Anchor John Jacob Kioria, the Cabinet Secretary disclosed that knitting holds a special place. Miano, a legal scholar, is not only a dedicated public servant but also a devoted wife and mother, cherishing her at home.
As a devoted Presbyterian, Miano actively engages in church leadership within her local Presbytery in Nyahururu. Her passion for community service is palpable. “I love contributing to my community. In Nyahururu, I’m deeply involved in church and community development. I’m also part of a women’s group where we plan to purchase tents and chairs for rental, promoting economic empowerment.”she says.
Beyond her governmental and knitting pursuits, Miano wears yet another hat – that of a livestock farmer.
Additionally, she is a proud member of the Nairobi University Alumni, representing the class of 1990, known as MV 1990. This alumni group champions self-help initiatives and gives back to their beloved institution.
In Rebecca Miano, we discover a multifaceted individual, excelling in the realms of government, crafting, community service, and more, embodying the spirit of dedication and service in all facets of her life. BY KBC NEWS
