Wambani appointed as new acting Secretary of Safaricom PLC

Safaricom PLC has announced the appointment of Linda Mesa Wambani as the new acting Company Secretary.

The appointment comes after the previous secretary Kathryne Maundu stepped down after seven years in office.

In a statement by the Company’s Board Chairperson Adil Khawaja on Friday, Wambani will take over from Maundu from October 1.

“The Board is pleased to announce the appointment (subject to regulatory approval) of Ms. Linda Mesa Wambani as the acting Company Secretary of Safaricom PLC with effect from October 1, 2023,” Khawaja said.

The Board noted that Wambani is a qualified advocate with over 19 years of experience.

She is currently a Senior Legal Counsel at Safaricom PLC, where she provides legal and corporate governance support to the company, the M-PESA Foundation and Safaricom's investment vehicles in Ethiopia.

Prior to joining Safaricom PLC, Wambani worked at Dentons Hamilton Harrison and Mathews as a commercial and litigation lawyer.

She is a certified public secretary and holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi.

In addition, she has a master of business administration in strategic management from the United States International University (USIU) and a master of laws degree in commercial law from UON.

She is also a notary public and commissioner for oaths.

Further, she is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya, the Women on Boards Network and the Law Society of Kenya.

The Board lauded Maundu for her dedication during her tenure saying that she has helped the telecommunication company achieve milestones and earned the Board's trust.

“Kathryn has served on the Board and its various committees for more than seven years. During this period, she has supported the Board in the implementation of its mandate in line with the laws and regulations in Kenya and the process has earned the Board's trust and appreciation,” Khawaja said.

“The Board takes this opportunity to thank Kathryne for her dedicated service, sound advice and commitment to Safaricom over the years, and wishes her the very best for the future.”   BY THE STAR
