Ruto to attend Mzee Sankei's funeral in Narok West

President William Ruto is on Saturday expected to attend the funeral service of the late Mzee Titame ole Sankei at his Olopirik home, Nkorinkori, Narok West sub-county today.

Sankei,98, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 2022.

Maasai leader Narok governor Patrick Ole Ntutu said that his death was a blow to the community.

"His journey though marked by the sands of time was one of resilience, wisdom, and a profound connection to his roots, " Ntutu said.

He said Sankei's legacy is not measured in years alone but in the countless stories, lessons, and memories he leaves behind.

"As we grieve his departure, let us also celebrate the remarkable life he led."

Earlier in the week, Maasai elders conducted a special bull slaughtering ceremony in honor of Sankei, a tradition reserved for esteemed community elders aged 70 and above.

Normally, the sacred bull is picked from the family and slaughtered as an indicator that the head of the family has died.

Sankei belongs to the Ilnyangusi age set.

In 2002, he spearheaded the construction of AGC church in Olerai by donating a piece of land and facilitating the construction of a semi-permanent structure.

In 2019, a group of friends led by former Energy cabinet secretary Charles Keter and then Youth Affairs PS Julius Korir made contributions and led to the construction of an ultra-modern Church that was commissioned by Ruto, who was at that time the deputy president in 2020.

Sankei chaired demarcation of the Maasantare group ranch from 1990-1996. He was a committee member of Lemek Group Ranch.   BY THE STAR
