Ruto announces gov’t plan to import duty-free yellow maize

 

In a bid to alleviate the soaring cost of livestock feeds, President William Ruto has announced the government's plan to initiate the importation of duty-free yellow maize for livestock.

Speaking during the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Governing Council meeting at the Bomas of Kenya on Friday, September 29, Ruto expressed the government's commitment to reduce the high cost of living faced by citizens.

He stated that the government had already allocated funds through the Treasury for the importation of yellow maize. However, specific details of the importation deal were not provided during his address.

"Sehemu nyingine tumekubaliana katika budget tumepitisha ya kwamba tutakuwa tunaagiza yellow maize duty-free na tumekubaliana na wizara ya kwamba tunataka kupunguza gharama ya chakula ya mifugo yetu," Ruto stated.

Loosely translated as; In other areas, we have agreed in the budget that we will be importing yellow maize duty-free, and we have reached an agreement with the ministry that we want to reduce the cost of animal feed.

According to Ruto, the move to import duty-free yellow maize for livestock feed is expected to have a cascading effect on various sectors of the economy.

Alongside reducing the cost of livestock feed, it is anticipated that this initiative will also contribute to lowering the prices of other agricultural inputs, such as cotton seeds and others.

"Isipokuwa kupunguza gharama ya mbolea, tunapunguza bei ya bidhaa nyingine ikiwa ni pamoja na mbegu za pamba na nyinginezo ili kupunguza gharama za maisha kwa sababu ni njia ya vitendo," he stated.

Loosely translated as; Besides reducing the cost of fertilizer, we are also reducing the prices of other products, including cotton seeds and others, in order to lower the cost of living because it is a practical way.   BY K24 NEWS
