Nairobi Man In Court Over Sleeping With Another, Promising To Clear Rent Arrears

 

Peter Maina appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina where he was charged that on September 6, 2023, at around 1am in Kirinyaga Road, Samana Guest House in Nairobi, had carnal knowledge of Kedwig Otieno(name changed against the order of nature.)  In Kenya, homosexuality is prohibited under the Penal Code 1930. Rent cases in Kenya According to a police report seen by TUKO.co.ke, on the material day, Otieno was loitering in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) after his house was locked by the landlord over accumulated rent arrears. With nowhere to spend the night, he was walking around the city when he met Maina, the accused person in the matter, at Simba Coach Bus Stage in downtown Nairobi. After striking up a conversation, Otieno poured out his problems to Maina, with the latter embracing empathy and sympathy for the partially homeless Kenyan.  The report stated that Maina then offered to rent a room where they spent the night together and promised to clear Otieno's arrears and give him some money on top. However, in the middle of the night, Otieno suddenly woke up only to find the accused person on his back ,with his innerwear removed and trousers pulled downwards. Startled by what his mate was doing to him, Otieno jumped from the bed as Maina pleaded with him not to disclose what had transpired to anyone. The two then continued to sleep together until morning and even had breakfast together. Otieno said Maina gave him his mobile phone number as they parted ways. Still in shock, Otieno reported the incident at the Central Police Station and Maina was later apprehended by detectives. He denied the charge and he will remain in police custody as his pre-bail report is being prepared.
