Despite the challenges, Ngugi rose to become a successful businesswoman, to be listed under the Forbes 30 under 30. How Muthoni Ngugi struggled She recalled moving out of her parent's home while still in university aged 18 and had to fend for herself. "I was in my second year at the University of Nairobi studying Finance. I was already fending for myself," she was quoted by Daily Nation. She worked as a personal assistant at a real estate firm, taking home KSh 15,000 monthly, enough to survive. In 2015, she worked at two restaurants in Nairobi, one at day night and the other at night. In between, she had to find two hours from her tight schedule to teach literature at a private school. A year later, she took a leap by withdrawing her savings and enrolling for a course in interior architecture, having dropped out of the university due to lack of school fees.
