Maigo was one of my best staff, go-to person on finance matters – CEO

It was just a normal board meeting for the Nairobi Hospital Finance and Investments Committee on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

It was a routine that as the CEO of Nairobi Hospital, James Nyamongo attends such meetings.

Little did he know that it was the last day and conversation with the late Nairobi Hospital acting finance director Eric Maigo.

During an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, Nyamongo said that the late Maigo made an impressive presentation.

“I had interacted with him during our board’s Finance and Investment Committee meeting and we had made a very good presentation.  I saw one of the ways he has delivered from a professional view," he narrated.

As they parted ways after the meeting, the CEO said they agreed to meet the following day but it never came to pass.

"It was really disheartening to find out the person I was with 12 hours ago was no more,” Nyamongo said.

Maigo, 36, was on Friday morning ( September 15, 2023) found murdered in his house at Woodley estate, Nairobi.

His body was stabbed 25 times.

The postmortem which was conducted at the Lee Funeral Home on Saturday revealed some vital organs were raptured by the stabs in the attack.

The main suspect in Maigo's murder was arrested on Tuesday night.

Police said the suspect, a minor believed to be between 15 to 17 years old, has been on the run since last week.

She was arrested in Kibera slums, Nairobi in an intelligence-led operation by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives.

She has been detained at the Muthaiga Police Station awaiting transfer to Kilimani Police Station which is handling the matter.

After the news broke at the hospital, CEO Nyamongo says it has been a difficult moment as colleagues are still yet to come to terms with the horrific way Maigo was murdered.

The CEO  highlighted that Maigo was one of his best staff and that he was his go-to person on matters of finance.

"All of us were shocked by the murder of Maigo. We as the Nairobi Hospital family are looking forward to knowing the cause of this death," Nyamongo added.

The CEO noted that the staff at the hospital have been going through counseling since the murder occurred.

Last Friday, the Nairobi Hospital organised a requiem mass for the slain finance director.

It was held at the hospital Amphitheatre Convention Centre.

Maigo will be buried at his Kisii rural home on September 29, 2023.   BY THE STAR
