KRA to launch annual taxpayer's month on Monday
The Kenya Revenue Authority will on October 2, 2023 launch the Annual Taxpayer's Month, the Authority said in a statement.
During the event, KRA will also unveil its online auction as well as the Tax Amnesty, as a way of giving back to taxpayers.
The launch will be officiated by National Treasury and Economic Planning CS Njuguna Ndung'u, KRA Board Chairman Anthony Mwaura, KRA Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga, among other guests from both private and public sectors.
“The Taxpayers' Month acts as a platform to encourage citizens to be tax compliant, fund the national budget and make their contribution towards sustaining the economy,” reads the statement.
“This year's Taxpayers' Month theme is "Tunawiri", which can be translated to "let us prosper". The theme is a rallying call to all Kenyans to fulfill their role towards the prosperity of Kenya through payment of taxes.”
KRA noted that the celebrations will run throughout the month of October and will be marked by customer-centric activities countrywide.
“KRA celebrates the Taxpayers' Month annually to appreciate compliant taxpayers for their patriotism in dutifully remitting their taxes in the financial year 2022/2023,” the statement reads.
The customer-centric activities include taxpayer appreciation visits, taxpayer education, Annual Tax Summit and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
KRA called on taxpayers to take advantage of the Tax Amnesty introduced through the Finance Act 2023.
It noted that the amnesty factors in all taxpayers with penalties and interests accrued as at December 31, 2022.
“Taxpayers are from September 1, 2023 to June 2024 allowed to settle the principal tax and all their penalties and interests will be waivered."
In addition, the Authority said President William Ruto will officiate the culmination of the 2023 Taxpayers' Month award ceremony.
The ceremony will recognize and honour distinguished taxpayers for upholding tax compliance in the year 2022.
KRA urged taxpayers to participate in the Taxpayers' Month activities where they will have an opportunity to give feedback on various tax issues.
It noted that the feedback will enable the Authority to enhance service delivery and create a more conducive environment for voluntary compliance.
“KRA, therefore, encourages the public to participate in the Taxpayers' Month activities as an act of patriotism,” reads the statement. BY THE STAR
