Kiambu Woman Blamed for Neighbour's Child Death after Feeding Her on Porridge: "Alilala 2 Hours"

 

Mary Wambui found refuge in a neighbour after her parents deserted her under the shelter of a neighbour with a child with a disability. She died in sleep, Wambui Wambui, a mother of three, was tasked with taking care of the young girl while the girl's mother went to hustle. Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, 23-year-old Wambui vividly recalled what transpired on the day she will never forget. "One day, the mum left as usual and gave me food to feed the child. The baby was unwell. She had a fever, so the mum told me to care for her well. So, I fed the baby as usual. I gave her food, some porridge and water. The baby fell asleep, so I took her to bed. The baby slept for two hours, and I did not know she died in sleep," she narrated. When the woman came later in the evening, she asked where her daughter was, and Wambui told her she was sleeping. Beaten with piece of wood with sharp nail She was surprised that the baby had slept so long and that Wambui never woke her. Wambui said she thought the little one was sleeping well and did not want to interrupt.  "She checked on the baby, and immediately I heard her screaming. She came outside saying I had killed her child. She landed on me with a piece of wood with a sharp nail. It dug into my skin and left me with an injury on my back. Some women who came to see whatever was happening incited her to send me away, accusing me of murdering her child," she cried. Wambui was lucky not to be put in prison despite the matter being taken to the chief, but she was kicked out of the house by the neighbour who had hosted her for five years.
