On Thursday, September 21, the meeting chaired by Wiper leader Musyoka and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah nearly ended in disarray after Kioni and Omar started engaging in a shouting match. The heated exchange between the duo lasted for several minutes before Kalonzo and Ichung'wah stepped in and restored calm. Kioni, a member of the Azimio technical team, stormed out of the meeting, pointing to a sharp division in the ongoing talks. President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga's camps are divided on the interim measures that should be prioritised as the talks continue. The opposition has insisted on the government suspending the implementation of Finance Act 2023 as one way of lowering the cost of living, an idea the government side firmly rejected. What dialogue team agreed on security for Azimio leaders Addressing the press after the 2-hour meeting, Kalonzo downplayed claims of stalemate in the talks. The former vice president said the 10-member National Dialogue Committee had instructed the technical team to review interim measures and realign them with the agenda items. Kalonzo disclosed that the bipartisan team had managed to agree on the restoration of security details for Azimio leaders. "Every member of this committee is committed to the talks to its logical conclusion. We have allowed the technical team to realign the issues to fit into the mandate of the committee.
