Gov’t to hire 4,000 Kenyans for tree planting initiative
The government through the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has today announced that it is in the process of hiring 4,000 tree nursery attendants for the 'Green Army program'.
In a statement, KFS announced that the initiative is expected to foresee the achievement of growing 1.5 billion tree seedlings per year for the next ten years.
The government agency also stated that they had already received applications for the role and interviews will be conducted soon.
Those who qualify will be expected to assist in the national growing and ecosystem restoration program by planting trees, raising tree seedlings, silvicultural operations in forests among other forestry duties.
"KFS through the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry are in the process of hiring 4,000 tree nursery attendants for the 'Green Army' program. The Green Army is expected to greatly contribute to the achievement of growing 1.5 billion tree seedlings per year for the next ten years.
"The Green Army tree nursery workers will assist in the national tree growing and ecosystem restoration program by raising tree seedlings, and planting trees, silvicultural operations in forests among other forestry duties. Applications were received and interviews are expected to be conducted on a day to be announced in the coming weeks," the statement reads in parts.
The latest aligns with President William Ruto's tree-planting agenda to help combat the effects of climate change in Kenya.
Ruto called on all government departments to join the initiative and help deal with the environmental effects of climate change.
"We want to involve all departments including the Kenya Defence Forces, prisons, National Youth Service, Kenya Wildlife Services, and Kenya Forest Service, among others in this ambitious tree-planting programme," Ruto stated. BY K24 NEWS
