Former Mungiki Leader Maina Njenga Allegedly Abducted By Unknown People

 

Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has allegedly been abducted by unknown people from his house in Banana, Kiambu.

According to his brother Njoroge Kamunya and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, the incident occurred in Banana area, Kiambu where Njenga was visiting a friend on Saturday night.
“My client Maina Njenga is still missing. He was abducted by police whose Subarus had a south Sudan registration number…He was never booked in any police station,” Njiru stated.

He said the days of detentions without trial are back in Kenya.

His brother Kamunya said Njenga’s brother was abandoned in his car after the abduction.

“We don’t know why they took him. The driver says those were police,” he said.

Police did not respond on the incident immediately.

Other observers believe the latest incident indicates a pattern of harassment on those in the opposition.

This follows the arrest of former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya last month over claims of graft.

The family and lawyers were looking for him on Sunday.

In May he was also arrested from his father’s home in Kiserian and detained for days before being arraigned.

His case before Makadara Law Court is slated for mention on Monday September 18.

Njenga was later released on a Sh200,000 bond after he was charged for allegedly playing a huge role in planning anti-government demonstrations.

In May this year, Njenga made headlines when police raided his three homes in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Laikipia counties.

This followed claims they recovered weapons from the Nakuru home.

The recovery was made on May 12 when the police raided Njenga’s home in Ngomongo village in Bahati, Nakuru.   BY CAPITAL NEWS
