Details of Ruto's meetings with four Presidents in US

 

President William Ruto has been in the United States attending the United Nations General Assembly meetings.

On the sidelines of UNGA, Ruto has been engaging in bilateral meetings with leaders from all walks of life.

This is aimed at strengthening Kenya's bilateral relations with the outside world, as well as opening up opportunities for investments.

On Tuesday, Ruto met at least four Presidents for bilateral engagements among other issues.

In a meeting with Luis Abinader, President of the Dominican Republic they agreed to offer assistance to the proposed UN Security Mission to Haiti that will be led by Kenya.

The two leaders also agreed to have the Dominican Republic establish a mission in Nairobi.

The two countries also signed various cooperation agreements.

"In New York, United States, met Luis Abinader President of the Dominican Republic; signed Framework Cooperation Agreement to strengthen bilateral relations, and exchange specialists, researchers, professors, interns and institutional strengthening programmes," Ruto said.

In another meeting with Switzerland President Alain Berset, Ruto said Kenya is keen to explore more opportunities for cooperation with Switzerland to bolster trade and investment.

President Berset pledged to support initiatives aimed at unlocking green energy potential.

"Our ease of doing business, coupled with our substantial market access facilitated by the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, positions Kenya as an attractive investment hub for Swiss investors," Ruto said.

Ruto said Kenya's ties with Cuba have greatly benefited the national development agenda, particularly in the healthcare sector.

This was during a meeting with Cuba President Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. They pledged to continue strengthening and expanding these relations to foster partnerships that will transform the lives of citizens of both countries.

Ruto also met with the President of Kazakhstan Qasym-Jomart Toqayev.

He said their talks were centred around exploring areas of mutual interest with the aim of developing cooperation and partnership in trade, investment, science innovation and technology, food security and labour mobility.

Ruto also invited Kazakhstan to make Kenya and the Port of Mombasa a logistics hub for grain exports to the region.

Other leaders Ruto met on the sidelines of UNGA include CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Alice Albright, President of Angola João Lourenço, Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, among others.   BY THE STAR
