CS Kuria's sarcastic apology to Kenyans over fuel prices remarks

 

Investments, Trade and Industry CS Moses Kuria has sarcastically apologised to Kenyans over his earlier remarks that the cost of fuel will continue rising until February next year.

In his apology on Wednesday morning, Kuria said that he had been advised by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and his master that his remarks were incorrect and insensitive.

The CS went on to say that he has now been made to understand the price of fuel will drop, hence his apology.

"Dear Kenyans. On Friday, September 15, I made some comments indicating that the price of fuel is likely to go up in the coming months owing to global dynamics. I have since been advised by people like Dr Boni Khalwale and his master that the statement was incorrect, insensitive and arrogant. I am made to now understand that the price will come down. I apologise profusely since to err is human," Kuria said.

His remarks, however, seemed to be hitting at the Senator who has been calling on President William Ruto to sack Kuria over the remarks.

Khalwale who was speaking in Kakamega had also called for the sacking of Energy CS Davis Chirchir, and Ruto’s economic advisor David Ndii over their controversial remarks on the cost of fuel.

On Saturday, Kuria came under fire for telling Kenyans complaining of high fuel prices to drill their own oil wells. 

The CS said the whole world was aware that the prices of crude oil have gone up and it is not a secret. 

"Ukishinda umesema bei ya mafuta imeongezeka kutoka asubuhi mpaka jioni, si uchimbe kisima chako? (When you keep on complaining that the prices of fuel have gone up, why don't you just drill your own oil well?)" he said. 

Kuria further linked the rising cost of fuel to climate change-related issues.

Following his remarks, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua cautioned all state appointees against addressing Kenyans with arrogance.    BY THE STAR
