Chebukati, ex-IEBC commissioners among others to appear before National Dialogue Committee

Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Committee chairperson Wafula Chebukati, former vice Juliana Cherera and five commissioners will today (Thursday) to appear before the National Dialogue Committee.

Chebukati, Cherera and commissioners Abdi Guliye, Boya Molu, Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang’aya will make submissions before the committee leading bi-partisan talks between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio.

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, the Council of Governors, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, the Media Council of Kenya and Amnesty International will also appear before the committee.

Others are Transparency International and the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research Analysis.

The 10-member dialogue committee will be deliberating issues the Opposition has with the administration.

The meeting will be held at the Bomas of Kenya.

The committee signed the framework agreement on August 30, giving it 60 days to hold talks and submit a report to Parliament.

Among the issues are the high cost of living which Azimio has made its priority agenda, an audit of the 2022 general election and the bipartisan reconstitution of the IEBC.

Since last year the Opposition leader Raila Odinga has maintained his presidential victory was stolen.

Kenya Kwanza had listed a reconstitution of the IEBC as their priority agenda alongside the entrenchment of the Constituency Development fund.

The dialogue committee has been receiving public views and submission on the listed agenda anchored for the talks.

The panel listed five broader issues for discussion which include the electoral justice agenda (reconstitution of IEBC, audit of 2022 presidential election, and boundaries delimitation).

Others are the cost of living, fidelity to the Political Parties Act, Coalitions, and laws on multiparty democracy.

The entrenchment of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) into the Constitution and  National Government Affirmative Action Fund will be discussed as agenda four.

The entrenchment into the Constitution of the offices of the Leader of the Official Opposition and the Prime Cabinet Secretary has been listed as agenda item number five.   BY THE STAR
