In a bid to alleviate the soaring cost of livestock feeds, President William Ruto has announced the government’s plan to initiate the importation of duty-free yellow maize for livestock.
Speaking during the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Governing Council meeting at the Bomas of Kenya on Friday, September 29, Ruto expressed the government’s commitment to reduce the high cost of living faced by citizens.
He stated that the government had already allocated funds through the Treasury for the importation of yellow maize. However, specific details of the importation deal were not provided during his address.
Loosely translated as; In other areas, we have agreed in the budget that we will be importing yellow maize duty-free, and we have reached an agreement with the ministry that we want to reduce the cost of animal feed.
According to Ruto, the move to import duty-free yellow maize for livestock feed is expected to have a cascading effect on various sectors of the economy.
Alongside reducing the cost of livestock feed, it is anticipated that this initiative will also contribute to lowering the prices of other agricultural inputs, such as cotton seeds and others.
