Nakuru Senior Resident Magistrate Emmanuel Soita has sentenced Geoffrey Moriasi and Isaya Mogaka to 15 years each in prison after they were found guilty of gang rape.
In a statement, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said the incident took place on the night of February 7, 2023, at Kaptembwo Estate in Nakuru West sub-county, within Nakuru County.
The victim was abducted by the accused, blindfolded, and taken to an undisclosed location. There, she was subjected to multiple acts of sexual assault throughout the night.
Soita concluded that the prosecution had presented compelling evidence to support their case.
The verdict hinged on several critical factors, including the clear identification of the accused, the absence of any consent from the victim, and undeniable proof of the heinous criminal act.
“During the verdict, Hon. Soita concluded that there was sufficient evidence, including the identification of the accused, lack of victim consent, and proof of the criminal act and thus concluded that the prosecution successfully proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt,” the ODPP stated.
The prosecution was spearheaded by PC Annastacia Mumbe, who diligently presented a robust case against the defendants.
Mumbe called upon five witnesses who testified during the trial, each contributing to the mounting evidence against Moriasi and Mogaka. BY K24 NEWS
