An advocate of the High Court was on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, charged with defrauding two businessmen Ksh7 million in a land deal.

Lawyer Esau Oywaya Akombo appeared before Milimani Magistrate Ben Mark Enkhubi and denied two charges of conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretences.

The court heard that Akombo obtained Ksh7.3 million from Benedict Miriti and James Mwangi by falsely pretending that he was in a position to sell a genuine land parcel No. Ruiru/Ruiru Block 2/375, a fact he knew to be false.

Akombo is alleged to have committed the offence on diverse dates between July 13 and October 11, 2022, at Nairobi jointly with another before court, with intent to defraud.

The advocate is further accused of conspiring to defraud Miriti and Mwangi the said money.

He urged the magistrate to grant him lenient bail saying he would abide by all conditions set by the court.

Enkhubi directed the lawyer to be released on bond terms of Ksh300,000 or alternative cash bail of Ksh150,000.   BY K24 NEWS
