2 arrested in connection with ongoing operation against drug traffickers

Anti-narcotics detectives have apprehended two more suspects in ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking within the country.

The two, Michael Adeyemi Adedji, a Nigerian national, and Selina Ndinda Ndonyo, a Kenyan citizen were arrested in the Umoja Innercore area of Nairobi following meticulous intelligence leads.

"Two more suspects are in police custody in connection with the ongoing operation targeting drug traffickers in the country. The two, a Nigerian national Michael Adeyemi Adedji and a Kenyan Selina Ndinda Ndonyo were arrested at Umoja Innercore in Nairobi, by Anti Narcotics detectives following intelligence leads," the DCI stated.

The operation, which has been ongoing as part of a broader crackdown on drug-related activities, took a significant leap forward with the apprehension of Adedji and Ndonyo.

Acting on credible information, the detectives moved swiftly to make the arrests.

During a thorough search of the suspect's residence, law enforcement officials uncovered a startling cache of evidence.

"A search in their house resulted in the recovery of four African-made handbags with false sides, each containing a package of white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine," the statement detailed.

This discovery raised suspicions of their involvement in a more extensive drug distribution network.

The search continued, ultimately leading to the discovery of a separate red bag within the premises.

Inside the red bag were three additional packages of a similar powdery substance. All substances recovered from the scene were promptly seized and subjected to further examination.

Preliminary assessments revealed that the combined weight of the confiscated substances amounted to approximately 2,100 grams.

As investigations continue, the suspects remain in police custody, awaiting the next steps in their legal process.

"Meanwhile, the suspects have been placed in custody pending arraignment," the DCI's statement concluded.

This comes on the heels of five individuals being arrested earlier and a substantial quantity of pellet-shaped substances suspected to be cocaine confiscated in Kitengela, situated in Kajiado County.

In an official communication, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that the drugs were unearthed during a targeted operation carried out at Beckvike homes, precisely at 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

Among the detainees, four are suspected to be citizens of Tanzania, while their collaborator is identified as a Kenyan national.

The individuals in question bear the names Ali Abubakar, Mohammed Kassim, Saad Salim, and Rosse Paul Tito. The fifth individual, apprehended as part of the group, has been recognized as Nancy Munyota.

As reported by the DCI, a total of 143 pellets, containing a substance recognized for its severe addictive properties, were uncovered. These pellets were concealed within empty containers typically used for fruit juice packaging.

In addition to the drug discovery, law enforcement also confiscated a digital weighing apparatus and a considerable sum of money in varying currencies, the combined value of which approximates Ksh63,000.    BY K24 NEWS
