Residents of Iloodokilani Ward in Kajiado West can now access government services easily after a new sub-county, Elangata Wuas, was operationalized.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki operationalized the new Sub-County headquarters and installed Fred Masingila as the first Deputy County Commissioner.
Speaking during the installation ceremony, the CS reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring service delivery and development for all Kenyans.
He revealed that locals will no longer have to travel for many kilometres in search of government services, as they will now be available within the Sub-County.
“All government services will now be available here at Elangata Wuas Sub-County. If you want a birth certificate or identity card, you will no longer have to travel for many kilometres to access them as the services will be available right here,” he said.
Kindiki further revealed that Kajiado West would be gazetted as a hardship area, and civil servants being posted in the area would receive hardship allowances to enable them to carry out their responsibilities well.
“Civil servants who will be posted here will get hardship allowance; this will mitigate their hardship condition here,’’ he said.
The CS also promised the residents that the government would look into the condition of the roads in the new Sub-County with a view to repairing them.
He said the Kajiado-Maili Tisa-Magadi Road would be repaired to enable easy access to services.
Kajiado West Member of Parliament George Sunkuiya welcomed the opening of the Sub-County offices in the area, noting that residents had suffered for many years.
The legislator said the locals will benefit directly from employment by the government, for instance, in the Kenya Defence Forces or Police Service, as the Sub-County will be listed as one of the recruitment centres.
“We are very happy that Elangata Wuas is now a Sub-County. Apart from accessing government services easily and faster, the residents will benefit directly from government employment,” Sunkuiya said.
Kajiado County now has eight Sub-County administrative units, namely: Kajiado North, Isinya, Loitokitok, Mashuuru, Kajiado Central, Kajiado West, Oloililai, and Elangata Wuas. BY KNA
