Ruto Allies Accuse ODM of Double Standard after Expulsion of 5 MPs: “Kalonzo Was at State House”

News

On Wednesday, September 6, the ODM’s Nation Executive Committee (NEC) meeting resolved to expel five MPs over their alleged links with Ruto. What UDA politicians said about ODM expelling 5 MPs The move attracted a lot of condemnations from United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party leaders, who accused ODM, led by Raila Odinga, of double standards. For instance, Nandi senator Samson Cherargei wondered why no action had been taken against Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for attending the state dinner at State House, Nairobi. Cherargei termed ODM’s decision as political, conmanship, intimidation and blackmail, something he said must end. “Double stand by Azimio-OKA/Tinga is unprecedented & hypocritical because Kalonzo was in the state house yesterday where before him, my law lecturer, Sen. Prof. Ojienda, Jalango & others visited the state House they have been expelled; will Kalonzo also be expelled from Azimio-OKA / wiper party for going to state House yesterday? Tinga has met Ruto several times. Will he also be expelled from ODM/Azimio-OKA ? This political conmanship, intimidation, and blackmail must come to an end,” Cherargei. Wading on the Orange Party’s radical purge, Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale said the affected lawmakers should not be worried as the decision to expel them was a small matter.  “Small matter. This Senator and MPs will remain in office until the end of their term in 2027,” Khalwale said. UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala accused the ODM party of attempting to criminalise freedom of thought and association. “Orange Dictatorship Movement(ODM)where Democracy, freedom of thought and association is a capital offence,” Malala said. On his part UDA MP Edward Múríu said; “Yesterday, Raila Odinga greeted DP Rigathi Gachagua and attended a Government Function on #ACS2023, today Kalonzo Musyoka was in State House. Why have they not been expelled? The Will of the People is greater than the will of an individual.” What Tom Ojienda said about his expulsion by ODM In a related development, Kisumu senator Tom Ojienda downplayed his expulsion from the ODM party over his alleged association with Ruto’s government. In a statement, the Kisumu senator said he had no regrets about working closely with the Kenya Kwanza administration. The Senior Counsel vowed to continue working with President Ruto despite the decision to expel him from the Orange Party. “My Party has today expelled me for working with President William Ruto. I have no apology and will continue to work with the president,” Ojienda said.
