Why Kagwe Mungai never wanted to be linked to former Health CS

The Kagwes are a renowned name in Kenya.

Among the family members are Former CS Mutahi Kagwe, musicians Kahush and Kagwe Mungai, who thrill Kenyans with several hit songs.

Kagwe Mungai is currently riding high with a new album Rada which debuted in June this year.

Kagwe in a new interview speaks about his popular civil servant uncle, Mutahi Kagwe.

"For the longest time in my career, I used to deny him."

Whenever he told people his name, they would ask if he was related to the then-Health Cabinet Minister.

"I would be like I have heard the name but I ... it was mainly because I didn't want people to think that that's where I am starting my journey from. It's not ati to deny it, coz obviously that's my family, but my journey has been my own. It has never necessarily been influenced by that. But as soon as that comes out when it came out, coz he is the one who said in an interview that...Kagwe is my nephew," Kagwe narrated.

Kagwe said that after disclosing the information.

In 2020, the former CS also informed Kenyans that popular rapper Kahush was his son.

In an interview with Citizen TV's Sam Gituku, the CS told Kenyans that he listens to his son's music.

“Kahush is my youngest son. He´s a first-year student at Nottingham University in the UK. He is also a rapper and a good one too and I listen to his music sometimes Mi Siwezi,” He said

Kahush also did the same, confirming that the CS is his dad adding that he even used his picture in a video for a song.

Telling Iko Nini Podcast about this, Kagwe Mungai told that he never wanted people to think he was getting favors because his uncle was a government official.

"I was like now that the cat is out of the bag, sawa tuendelee. But from there there was this thing of we ni ule msee"

He meant that people felt he could use his family to influence getting tenders through his uncle.   BY MPASHO NEWS
