We must denounce violence in our politics – Mudavadi

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on Kenyan leaders to denounce violence in political engagements.

Mudavadi said it is time leaders unite Kenyans and focus on development of the country.

He noted that as the dialogue between the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja kicks off, Kenyans expect the team to agree and make a resolution that violence has no space in the country's politics.

“The five agenda items that will form the basis of the talks should culminate in ensuring that there will be no more bloodshed and destruction of property as a result of politics,” Mudavadi said.

“What should come out of the dialogue is that Kenya is not in crisis as a nation. Kenya has a government in place and its institutions are working.”

He further said that the Government has an elaborate plan to implement for Kenyans and nobody should think that President William Ruto is not in control.

He spoke at St Monicah Catholic Church in Rongai, Kajiado where he attended the Sunday mass.

“The President should be allowed to work for Kenyans. He was voted for by Kenyans and it is time he is given space to deliver on what he pledged since he is the one with the mandate," explained Mudavadi.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary noted that the 2007/2008 post-election violence cost the country at least Sh25 billion on penalties as a result of a case by traders from neighbouring Uganda.

“Those traders from Uganda petitioned the government of Kenya after their trucks and businesses were damaged on the Kenyan soil. After moving to court, the High Court ruled in their favour and even after the Kenyan government appealed twice it lost. That is where acts of violence and destruction of property took us,

“We are now facing a liability as a result of the debt because of irrationality. The constitution does not state that when picketing you turn and become violent and destroy property," he said.

Mudavadi assured Kajiado residents that the Government remains focused and it will deliver on the projects it has set for them as well as in other regions.

He said it is key for county governments to work closely with the National government's leadership to deliver for Kenyans.    BY THE STAR
