Victims Unearth Another Mega Eldoret Scandal After Losing Millions
Senators have vowed to recover money from First Choice Recruitment and Consultancy Agency Director Judy Chepchirchir after parents and jobseekers exposed how the company allegedly conned them of millions in dubious job recruitment.
While appearing before the Senate Labour and Social Welfare Committee on Thursday, affected parents and jobseekers in Uasin Gishu County narrated harrowing tales of how their lives had changed after selling their property and land in search of a better future.
Some of the victims recounted how they lost their loved ones to depression owing to the millions involved in the dubious deals.
Moved by the heartbreaking stories, the lawmakers led by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei promised to have all the accused persons brought to book.
The senators indicated that they would want to get the families compensation despite the law taking its root cause.
On the other hand, they alleged contempt on the part of Chepchirchir who failed to attend the hearing held at the Uasin Gishu county assembly.
“We find that the Director of First Choice did not intentionally want to appear before this Committee to circumvent justice to the victims. So, the Committee should issue serious directions against the Director and its associates,” Cheragei stated.
“The President declared war against corruption yesterday when addressing the Devolution Conference. We, as a Committee, will not rest until First Choice refunds money to these petitioners,” Senator Miraj Abdulrahman added.
According to the parents, their children were promised jobs in Dubai, Australia, Poland and Finland among other countries.
The victims added that the agency was reluctant in refunding them and addressing their concerns even as some shed tears over how drastic life had changed for them.
“I convinced my husband to sell his motorbike and all our cows so that we can take our girl abroad. After Ms Judy, the Director, refused to honour her promise, my husband divorced me and he is demanding his money back,” Resilah Makokha narrated
The recruitment agency and Chepchirchir are yet to explain their absence at the meeting. BY KENYANS.CO.KE
