Top FKF PL coaches among 25 set to receive CAF A licence
Multiple Kenyan League winner Robert Matano is among the coaches who participated in a refresher course organized by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to obtain the prestigious CAF A license.
The course aimed to enhance the coaching skills and expertise of local trainers, ensuring they are equipped to lead teams at both grassroots and elite levels.

The list of prominent coaches who took part in the course includes Kenya Police head coach Francis Baraza, former Harambee Stars coach Jacob "Ghost" Mulee, former Ulinzi Stars coach Benjamin Nyangweso, former KCB coach Zedekiah Otieno and Posta Rangers coach John Kamau. Other coaches who participated are Ken Kenyatta, Gilbert Selebwa, Twahir Muhiddin, and Yussuf Chippo.
FKF President Nick Mwendwa highlighted the significance of capacity building for coaches as a vital component of the football development agenda.
“Capacity building of our coaches from the grassroots to the elite level is key in our football development agenda,” Mwendwa said.
He emphasized that starting from the 2024/25 season, all premier league clubs will be required to be led by coaches who have obtained the highest level of certification, the CAF A License.
Mwendwa's vision aims to ensure that the nation's finest players are nurtured and guided by exceptionally qualified coaching staff.
“Next season (2024/25), we shall require all premier league clubs to be managed by coaches who have attained our highest level of certification (CAF A License). We are doing this to ensure that our best players are handled by the most qualified personnel,” Mwendwa added.

The refresher course marked a significant step in advancing the coaching landscape in Kenya. It served as a continuation of the coaches' previous training in 2014, conducted in Machakos.
The comprehensive course covered various aspects of coaching, enhancing tactical understanding, player development, and strategic planning.
The CAF A license is a distinguished certification granted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), representing the second-highest level of coaching qualification on the continent.
The rigorous training provided coaches with the necessary tools to excel in their roles and contribute to the growth of Kenyan football.
Looking ahead, another group of 25 coaches is slated to commence their CAF A course in October, further augmenting the pool of highly qualified coaches in the country.
