Ruto, Raila congratulate Faith Kipyegon for winning second gold

 

President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga on Saturday night led the country in paying tribute to Faith Kipyegon after she won the country a second gold in the ongoing World Athletics Championship in Budapest.

The 29-year-old mother of one won the 5000m race with a breakneck run of 14:53:88 on Saturday, August 26, 2028, barely weeks after she had claimed the first gold after she smashed the 1500m final.

Owing to the recent achievement, the top athlete received plaudits from notable high-ranking officials in the country.

The President hailed Kipyegon describing her as brilliant and exceptional. He also congratulated Emanuel Wanyonyi and Beatrice Chebet for Silver in the men's 800m and bronze in the women's 5000m.

"The brilliant, exceptional and incomparable Faith Kipyegon has bagged a second Gold in the 5000m at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest," Ruto wrote.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also joined in celebrating the athlete, he showered her with praise and described her as the pride of Kenya.

"Class is permanent. Once again, our star Faith Kipyegon has stamped her authority to remarkably win the 5000m in the World Athletics Championships, Budapest, Hungary. This is priceless talent. Amazing! Congratulations, Faith. You are the pride of our nation!" Gachagua wrote.

On his part, Raila congratulated Kipyegon describing her as the greatest athlete ever.

"Congratulations to Faith Kipyegon for her stunning 1500m/5000m double victory in Budapest. In 2023, she's broken three world records and secured two world titles, putting 🇰🇪 firmly on the map and solidifying her place in the record books as one of the greatest athletes ever," Raila said.

First lady Mama Rachel Ruto also hailed and congratulated Kipyegon. She described her achievement as a proud Kenyan night as she appreciated the 29-year-old for soaring higher.

"A proudly Kenyan night at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. We celebrate a second gold medal for Faith Kipyegon in the women's 5000m, a silver for Emanuel Wanyonyi in the men's 800m and a bronze for Beatrice Chebet in the women's 5000m.
