Obilo Backs Zetech Sparks To Clinch Sterling Super Cup

Zetech Sparks coach Maurice Obilo says they are determined to win the Senior Sterling Super Cup Challenge that is scheduled to begin today and throughout the weekend.

Other rounds will be completed next weekend at the Nyayo Gymnasium with organisers keen to underline basketball’s philanthropic side by raising cancer awareness and climate action.

Zetech won the Under-23 event during the previous edition, taking home 100,000 shillings in prize money and will now look to lift the senior trophy.

“The team has been preparing, most of the players representing us are our young players, we have been in the finals two times, we have not managed to win the senior category but we are tasking the young ones to bring the trophy for us,” he said.

Obilo says the event will help him evaluate his side’s strengths and possible areas that need reinforcement before the premier league tips off.

“It is very good for them to get an opportunity to play the big teams bearing in mind the premier league will start in a few weeks,” he explained.

The tournament itself is poised to be a riveting showcase of talent and determination. In the Women’s Pools, formidable teams like Noga, Equity Hawks, Twende Ladies, Storms, Zetech Sparks, Th3 Swish team from Nakuru, Lady Titans, and ANU ladies are set to ignite the court with fierce matchups.

On the Men’s side, the pools feature powerhouse teams including Dockers, Twende Men, Mustang, Ku, UON, Snipers, Hoop Tribe, Zetech Titans, ANU Men, and NBK, all ready to battle for supremacy and thrill the spectators.

Sterling Super Cup Men and Women (seniors) Basketball Championship 2023 is a groundbreaking initiative that aims to merge the realms of sports, social consciousness, and environmental conservation.   BY CITIZEN DIGITAL
