Mathe wa Ngara demands answers on whereabouts of her Ksh13.4M seized by police
Nancy Kigunzu alias Mathe wa Ngara is now demanding answers on the whereabouts of the Ksh13.4 million recovered from her alleged drug den during a police raid last week.
While appearing before the court on Monday, August 28, 2023, Mathe, through her lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta wondered where her money was moved to when it was only meant to be an exhibit.
The two lawyers also noted that the money should not have been seized by the government.
"The integrity of the proceedings in this matter are critical assets recovery not a party to this case before you. Who has the custody of that exhibit?" the lawyers posed.
The prosecution responded by saying: "We have documents to confirm the chain of custody which will be deposited in court in due course but not today,"
The Ksh13.4 million was seized by police when police raided Kigunzu's drug den in Ngara.
However, last Friday, the High Court ordered that the amount seized be deposited into the Assets and Recovery Agency’s (ARA) preservation account at the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).
Mathe wa Ngara arrested
Police arrested Kigunzu at the Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) shortly after she had filed a petition in court to stop her imminent arrest.
At the time, the police also recovered 26 bags of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana), four cartons of rolling materials, 173 pieces of suspected blended drug/bhang, and 42 cartons each containing 200 pieces of cigarettes.
Four suspects identified as Eugene Jumba, Hillary Jumbo, Sheila Withers and Teresa Wanjiru were also arrested during the raid. BY K24 NEWS
