Lavington Girl Distressed after Strangers Storm Home, Grab Land Hours after Parents' Arrest

 

According to the woman, minutes after police arrested her parents, unknown people broke into their compound and started fencing part of their family land. "My name is Sarika, and I have lived here my whole life. I am now 27, this morning my parents were picked up outside my gate by cops, and a few hours later, people came in and started breaking the gate and digging holes to mark a fence," she told activist Boniface Mwangi in a video shared on Twitter. Uknown intruders The troubled lady, identified as Sarika, said she had no idea who the people were and did not know the whereabouts of her parents. "I have no idea where my parents are. I have no idea why they were arrested. I have not spoken to anybody," Sarika said. The noisy video showed gentlemen dressed in Muslim attire and other men patrolling the compound with tools, iron sheets and poles digging the compound, ready to erect a fence. "You are chilling in your home, and some random guys come and arrest your parents, and then they take over your land and fence it. This is Kenya. When we tell you about bad governance, you don't care," Mwangi said. Who owns the Lavington land Mwangi said the activities going on in the land, a probable land-grabbing case, is the outcome of bad governance that affects the rich and the poor.  "The poor suffer, and the rich as well. That is why we must fight for good governance. The man praying there claims he owns the land. Maybe he does, but he has not served this family any documents. He has taken over possession, and the family are in police custody. People are fencing off their land," he explained. Authorities are yet to confirm and respond to land-grabbing claims in the expansive Lavington property.
