Lamu: 145 Families Left In The Dark Despite Village Hosting Power Substation

Ndeu village in Lamu county continues to be deprived of electricity, despite hosting a substation that supplies power to its neighbouring communities.

Erected in December 2015, the substation stands as a symbol of hope for progress, but none of Ndeu's 145 families have been connected to electricity since its installation, leaving them in perpetual darkness.

The irony of the situation is not lost on the residents of Ndeu. While their nearby towns and communities’ benefit from the electrification provided by the substation, Ndeu remains in the shadows.

To charge there phones and other electronic devices, they rely on the power supply from neighbouring town of Hindi. Additionally, the absence of electricity poses a threat to their livelihoods, as wild animals sometimes invade their farms at night.

Lamu Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) boss, Eng. Kataka, has advised that for the village to be connected with electricity, they need to reach the quorum required to be connected.

He urged the residents to consult with their local member of parliament through the rural electrification program to pay half, while the government foots the other half of the bill.   BY CITIZEN DIGITAL
