"Hebu simama watu waone vile wewe ni mhandsome, inafaa ukuwe Mr Kenya na saa hii unataka streets zikuharibu. (Come over, let people see how handsome you are. You deserve to be Mr Kenya but now you are risking being wasted by these streets)," a concerned Waithera said. The boy, Nicholas Lucky Sabila, who was begging for money to buy lunch told the lady that he had been in the streets from 2021 after leaving their Endebess home. Waithera was stunned after the boy told her the deejaying academy that he desired to be trained in and read the trainer's number which he had crammed to the astonishment of Waithera. Coincidentally or by God's plan, Waithera knew the deejaying trainer who happened to be her friend and her daughter's trainer. She went ahead to call the Deejay and while describing the boy and the need at hand, the trainer confirmed that he knew him, saying his passion was undoubted. "Go ahead and enroll him. Let us see how consistent he is so that we can proceed with offering more help. For now, as you train him, urge him to get away from the streets to redeem his future," she told the trainer identified Tell Deejay Sancho of Scratch Dice DJ Academy. She offered to pay for Lucky's deejaying classes and lunch, urging Sancho to offer consistent apprenticeship to him. Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, Waithera confirmed that it was the first time meeting the boy and reiterated how disturbed she was to watch him getting wasted in the streets. Handsome Kenyans "Well you know being a street boy one would expect them not to be tidy, especially with the sniffing of glue and use of other substances, but he was neat. I actually thought he was not a street boy until I saw him sniffing glue," she explained. Asked about why she kept referring to the boy as handsome and black beauty to an extent that some of her social media followers felt it was inappropriate, Waithera said that he was affirming the boy that he was valuable and was not supposed to be in the streets. "It's true he is handsome and that's it. It is a natural value. People use their beauty to model brands and this boy's was wasting in the streets. About the mixed reactions from social media users, I chose to pick the positive because Lucky is like my son and I want the best for him," said Waithera whose mother is a businesswoman in Kitale, popularly known as Mama Njuguna. She explained that she offered to pay for the boy's deejaying classes instead of telling him to transition to high school because Lucky was in his late teens, specifically 16, and knew exactly what he wanted. The philanthropist urged parents to allow their children to pursue things that interest them if they want them to prosper and be happy in life. "School is good but for such a kid who is in his late teens knows what he wants to do. That's why, when I asked him how I could help him, he boldly stated he wanted to be a deejay. The passion was written all over him. "When he said that is what he wanted to be, deep down I said, go for it, if that's what will keep him out of the streets and turn his life around then I will support him. Even the most rebellious kids have something they would really want to do and ours as parents is to support them," added Waithera. Parenting in modern age She revealed that her daughter also wanted to become a deejay and she noticed that the training needed focus, determination and consistency, thus Lucky's desire proved he could do it well, despite it not being an easy skill to learn. "I took my daughter during one of her holidays to study deejaying and joined in to motivate her. After three days I felt exhausted and acknowledged that it is a tough skill to learn and we need to appraise those doing it well," continued Waithera. She urged parents to take time to learn their children's strengths and weaknesses so that they can know how best to help them achieve their dreams. The lady confirmed to TUKO.co.ke that Lucky had begun his deejaying classes, lauding the tutor for taking him to some daytime events. "I also have a restaurant and we have agreed that he will be taking his breakfast, lunch and supper there. He remains to be my responsibility now. If he maintains discipline and doing excellence I'll support him until he is able to comfortably fend for himself," she said. TUKO.co.ke also established that Waithera, a philanthropist in default, came to the rescue of a family of six children under the care of a single mother. She took all the six children to school and offered to take care of their year's school fees as they support the mother to stablise financially. "I have a lot in my plate but I believe the more we help those in need we are empowering the society members who will in turn support others and we'll one day leave. My mother, the proprietor of Mama Njuguna restaurants is my mentor who motivates me to work hard and be kind to all," she stated. BY TUKO NEWS
