Football legend Mulira lauds Ababu’s Talanta Hela camps

 

Former Harambee Stars and AFC Leopards midfielder Josephat ‘Controller’ Murila has heaped praise on the monumental gesture by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba of bringing together some talented young stars in the country for a one week training camp in Nairobi.

Murila has lauded the move noting that it is the way to go for maximum realization Kenya’s potential in sports internationally.

“Mine is just happiness about what the minister has done. It has never happened in the country. We never had such opportunities during our time and I hope the young people who had the chance to attend the camp will use the knowledge gathered to propel the careers to professionals.

"We have massive talents across all the sports in the country and this is the way to go as far as talent development in concerned,” said Murila.

Murila further asked CS Namwamba to consider giving more time to the young sport stars and artistes more time in the camps in future for detailed training.

About 2000 young stars aged between 14-19 took part in the Talanta Hela National Sports Camp in Nairobi from various counties, an initiative of the Ministry of Sports and spearheaded by the Kenya Academy of Sports.

Speaking during the official closure of the camp at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday, CS Namwamba reiterated the future focused intention of the ministry to give every talent in the country a chance to been seen and scaling it to greater heights.

“This has been very historic, Kenya’s first ever National Sports Talent Camp. We are starting something unique, we are starting a program where we will go for every talent in every corner of this country and give that talent a chance.

“The ministry is committed to unlocking the hidden potential of our youth and paving the way for a brighter and a more prosperous future,” Namwamba told People Daily Sports.

Football, rugby, netball, hockey, chess, volleyball are some of the sports that highlighted the week-long training at the Kasarani Stadium.

Kenya Academy of Sports Chief Executive Officer Dr Doreen Odhiambo says there will be another camp in December with priority given top talents at the national levels.
She further revealed that other regional talent camps will be set up by the ministry.   BY PEOPLES DAILY
