Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi‘s event on Tuesday, August 30, was interrupted by a group of protesters demanding handouts.

According to reports by media houses, the event in Ruiru where the county boss was issuing bursaries was briefly cut short after the rowdy youths who had been allegedly ferried by a section of Members of the County Assembly(MCAs) showed up.

The youths alongside Gatongora MCA John Njogu and his counterparts demanded that the governor issue Ksh1,000 and Ksh2,000 to everyone present before commencing the event targeting 3,200 students across eight wards; Gitothua, Mwiki, Kahawa Sukari, Kahawa Wendani, Biashara, Mwihoko, Gatongora and Kiuu.

Wamatangi was forced to move to a different section of the field and pleaded with the intruders to stay calm.

He pledged his readiness to work with MCAs and bury their hatchets for the sake of Wanainchi.

However, in a different tune, Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thangwa took a swipe at the governor saying he is not focused on offering solutions to real issues affecting the people in the county.

“If he doesn’t change it is not going to be easy because we started the meeting mediation dialogue with the MPs of Kiambu and the governor, and it did not work,” Karungo said.

Adding;

“I asked the deputy president Rigathi Gachagua to invite us with the governor so that we can talk; when the governor comes to the meeting he is discussing some irrelevant issues of how he was removed from a WhatsApp group…not issues that are affecting the people of Kiambu.”       BY GHAFLA  KENYA
