1 dies, several injured in suspected gas explosion in Eastleigh

 

One woman has been reported dead, while three other victims are nursing serious injuries following a gas cylinder explosion in Eastleigh, Nairobi County on Monday, August 14, 2023.

Police said the deceased was hit by an object while escaping from the scene of the explosion.

The trio have been rushed to the hospital as authorities investigate the cause of the explosion.

It is reported that residents heard a loud blast that left doors and windows shattered and household goods destroyed several meters away.

They rushed to the scene where most victims only suffered minor injuries.

According to Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei preliminary investigations show a suspected gas leak might have caused the explosion.

“For now, we suspect a gas leak. Someone might have lit a gas cylinder that had been left leaking causing the explosion,” he said. 

As of this writing, the owner of the building was yet to be questioned.    BY K24 NEWS
