Detectives are looking for a gang that attacked and robbed two officials of a cooperative society in Eldoret Sh3.3 million.
The officials of Ainabkoi Farmers Cooperative Society said they were on Eldoret-Kaptagat road at Duka Moja area of Kipkogot area when they were attacked.
They told police they were from Eldoret town heading to Ainabkoi aboard a salon car after withdrawing Sh3,305,715 from a bank when they were blocked by another vehicle.
Two occupants on board, who were wearing reflector jackets and claiming to be traffic police officers and not armed then alighted and demanded the car’s ignition key.
According to the officials, the occupants then grabbed the cash, which was in a black bag before speeding off toward Kaptagat.
No one was injured during the Friday drama.
Police said no arrest was made over the incident so far and a hunt on the said suspects is ongoing.
The officers suspect the attackers had prior information on the money before staging the robbery.
Such incidents have been on the rise in urban areas and according to investigations, they happen because of insider information.
Elsewhere the police are looking for a gang that waylaid passengers using Wamba-Kisima-Maralal road in Samburu and robbed them of Sh181,000.
The victims were riding on a lorry from Lolkunian market after the days business when they were attacked at the weekend, police said.
They were stopped by a group of around six men, one armed with an AK47 rifle and the rest with rungus.
According to the victims, they were ordered to alight from the lorry and robbed of the cash being their day’s sales.
During the incident, the driver sustained an injury on his left hand after being hit with a rung by one of the bandits.
After the robbery, the bandits escaped into the nearby bushes.
The victims drove to the Sorandoru police post, where they reported the matter prompting a search in vain. BY THE STAR
