More goodies for Kiambu county as President William Ruto pledged that his government will construct 15 new markets
Speaking when he toured Githurai on Saturday, Ruto said this will be done to fulfill part of his end of the bargain with Mama Mboga, and to dignify her hustle.
The 15 will be among the 400 markets the President has committed to building in three years.
“Hapa Kiambu tutawajengea soko ingine kumi na tano kwa sababu mimi nilikubaliana na kina mama mboga ya kwamba kazi ni kazi,” he said.
He noted that they have already announced tenders. On Tuesday, the state advertised 72 tenders for the first of the 400 markets.
The President spoke after commissioning the redevelopment of Githurai Market and announced that they will begin the construction of the Phase two soon.
He directed Lands CS Zacharia Njeru and Housing PS Charles Hinga to advertise the tenders for the project.
“Na waziri, mtafute mtu wa kandarasi ambaye atajenga soko hiyo kwa mwaka mmoja peke yake iwe imekamilika ndio turudi hapa,” he said.
He further directed Governor Kimani Wamatangi to ensure that traders are fairly allocated stalls in the newly completed market.
The markets advertised were to be built in Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Kericho, Homa Bay, Nakuru, Laikipia and Samburu among other counties.
In this year’s budget, Sh5.2 billion has been set aside for the construction of markets.
During his tour in the area, Ruto commissioned the Githurai Water Supply Project which is set to benefit 500,000 residents and connect 8,400 people to clean and safe water. BY THE STAR
