Ndindi: We can discuss everything, but not power-sharing

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has said the Kenya Kwanza government has always been open to dialogue but not on power-sharing

"We have been very consistent and I want to make it clear now from what I know and where I sit from our side. Dialogue is not a route to government and therefore we can talk about everything and anything else but not about power-sharing," he said on Tuesday.

Nyoro, who chairs the National Assembly's Budget and Appropriations Committee, said Kenya is a democratic country and there is only one way to get to government and that is through the ballot which is anchored in the Constitution.

He said President William Ruto-led government is willing to engage anyone because Kenya is for all of us.

"However, there is one fear we are not willing to enter into and that is what we have seen after every election. People who lose in elections purporting to get into government through other ways," Nyoro said during an interview on Citizen TV.

The Kiharu MP also questioned whether the reports of a purported meeting between Opposition Chief Raila Odinga and Tanzania President Samia Suluhu were on the cost of living or power-sharing.

He also questioned whether last week's protests were also a failed attempt to get to dialogue or on the high cost of living.

On Tuesday, Raila claimed that President  Suluhu came into the country two weeks ago to mediate over the bi-partisan talks with the Kenya Kwanza faction.

He said Suluhu was left hanging for the two days she was in the country and no mediation of the bi-partisan talks took place.

The ODM party leader spoke on Tuesday while addressing the international media on the crisis the country is currently in.

"She was kept waiting. We were available but the other faction was not available. Suluhu spent two nights here but it was all in vain," Raila claimed.

The government has not yet commented on the issue.        BY THE STAR
