Muthoki wins 8th leg of KCB East Africa golf tour

 

Peerless handicap 15 golfer Moses Muthoki emerged the overall winner of the 8th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour over the weekend.

He carded an impressive 41 stableford points at the Nyeri Club to win the series and book a grand finale slot. 

The seasoned golfer managed to card 22 points in the first nine and 19 in the back nine to claim his victory over 120 golfers who graced the tourney.

The winning team comprised of Winny Waiganjo, Vincent Githinji and Steven Gathara who returned a combined score of 147 points ahead of Thomas Mundia, Samuel Kiragu, Francis Njoroge, and Joel Githanda who returned 134 points to come second.

The two teams join the other 7 teams that have qualified for the tour’s grand finale that is scheduled for November this year at the Karen Country Club.

 Muthoki said: “I must say the course has been kept in really good shape. If you ask me how I won, I will use the analogy of Ernest Hemingway in his book the sun also rises, it was gradual, then sudden.”

Playing off handicap 21, Stephen Wambugu carded 21 points in the first nine and 18 in the second nine to be crowned the overall men winner of the day with 39 stableford points.

In the ladies’ category, handicap 28 golfer Perister Gaitho carded 39 Stableford points to beat all the ladies who had registered for the tournament.

KCB Nyeri Branch Manager James Kinga who plays off handicap 24 carded 37 Stableford points to be crowned the overall staff winner while Mukami Wachira (27) was the guest winner with 39 points.

Charles Rob of Nyali Club won the longest drive men while Stella Mwangi won it in the ladies’ category. Darsh Khilan was the Junior winner with 50 points.        BY THE STAR
