Enjoy retirement, politics will trap you – Wetang'ula tells Uhuru

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has advised former President Uhuru Kenyatta to steer clear from politics.

His sentiments come a day after the former president broke his silence after police officers raided the residence of his eldest son Jomo in Karen.

In a statement on Saturday, Wetang'ula said Uhuru should follow the footsteps of his predecessors and enjoy retirement instead of participating in politics.

"Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, cast away your unhelpful rage and vitriol, borrow a leaf each from retired President(s) Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki and enjoy peace, calm and much more in retirement! Politics will ensnare you!" the N.A Speaker said.

The former president on Friday denied involvement in allegations that he was funding Azimio's anti-government protests.

Uhuru wondered if the accusations came about because of his association with Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

"I'm I not supposed to talk to my friends? Is that a crime in Kenya today? Maybe you should tell me," he said.

"Have you seen me in any of those events? Have you seen me talk about any of those events?"

The former president went on to state that he had handed over power to President William Ruto because he believed that there was democracy in the country.

"I may not have supported this government, but I accepted the will of the people," he said.

He added that he did his best for the country while serving as the president but will now focus on defending his family.    BY THE STAR
